As soon as it gets close to dusk, we hear a familiar sound of Peepers! I had to look it up – in Bermuda it is the sound of “whistling tree frogs”. It is extremely loud even inside with the windows closed and the air conditioning running. I love it – it sounds like spring at the cottage. Only this sound plays out from evening until morning, plus a bit through the day, every day! We think this might be one - he was the size on a twonie:

The streets – even though they are tiny narrow streets – are very well lit, and all the surrounding houses keep an outdoor light on, likely for security. which means there is so much ambient light it is hard to sleep unless there are room darkening window treatments (plus the whistling frong sound.) Thank goodness for thick curtains!
Cell phone service and data
Since I had a Rogers credit card, I had 5 “roam like home” free days, so we were just going to do a mobile hotspot and use that. But in our explorations, we saw a place called Paradise Mobile, so went in to see if Randy could get a sim card for the week. Turns out they don’t do tourist sim cards. But what they did do was give us one for free for our stay – with unlimited everything. They just wanted a good Google review – which we were happy to give! There were a couple spots on the island where it got a bit glitchy, but overall it was great.
The Ferry

As part of our bus pass app we were able to use it on the ferries as well. Awesome. The second day of Cup Match the whole town of Hamilton was shut down (I had to beg for Splenda and salad dressing at the Esso gas station instead of just buying some at the market, which was closed), so we took the ferry out to the Royal Dockyards, where there were some businesses open. It was fun being able to see the coastline along the way, and enjoy the wind making my hair beat me up. At least I wasn’t trying to eat ice cream at the time.

And we did manage to buy the shaving cream that Randy needed in the pharmacy there (we made it to the store 1 minute before they closed, and they kindly let us in.) Here are some of the scenes from the dockyards, where they have managed to turn some of the historic buildings into storefronts and condos. There were some signs that they also had a dolphin experience and mini golf at the far end, but we didn't wander far enough to see that end. We were happy there wasn't a cruise ship docked there when we visited.
