Kanaka Creek fish hatchery and trail, with another couple of house sitters
The fish hatchery was less exciting – in fact, nothing to see at all. But the trail along the creek was cool – with several spots having actual staircases, other spots having steep hills, most walkways being covered in a decent amount of gravel, and maybe only 1 or 2 places having big puddles to have to traverse (without me sinking half way to my ankles in muck!) There were several branches of the trail fenced off for use though, and from one bridge we could see a construction crew working to repair/replace/build a bridge across the fast moving creek. (Possibly the former one was taken out with a mudslide.)

The sun was shining and the weather was perfect and the trails were fun. We spent a couple of hours sharing experience stories with the other couple, and it was a nice outing. The other couple, SitandSat, specialize in house and pet sits in the greater Vancouver area only. They don’t have an actual home of their own – they have a van, so their goals are quite different than ours. They want longer sits, preferably booked well in advance, so they know where they will be living for the next so many months, and can organize their work around that (being young and actually having entrepreneurial sources of income). We just want to go cool places and experience things we haven’t seen or done before! It is really interesting that different sitters can have vastly different goals and reasons why they do what they do. The sitters we became friends with in Florida would do many consecutive sits in the southern US, so they didn’t have to spend winter in the Canadian cold climate and could instead spend many of their days golfing.
