When we were wandering about, we noticed people setting their trash out for collection, and nothing was disturbing it! The nice lady I was chatting with at the airport let me know they don't have the same rodents that we have - no squirrels or chipmunks or skunks or raccoons. But they do have rats, which get into bags and make holes, which then lets the millions of birds get in there and spread debris everywhere!
What they do have is an invasive type of fish, called a Lionfish. The government there has told everyone it is open season on Lionfish, and encouraged spearfishing pretty much everywhere. The lionfish eat all the food so other types of fish don't have feeding grounds, plus the lionfish eat the eggs and young of the native types of fish. There are no predators to keep the numbers of lionfish in check - except for humans! Apparently they are quite tasty (once you chop off all the poison barbs on it), and restaurants are encouraged to have it included in their menus.
Fish features predominately in the diet of bermudians! We saw many signs for Wahoo specials. The way bermudians prefer fish is in a sandwich, but it is unlike any other fish sandwich I have heard of. First the fish is battered and fried, then it is served on raisin bread, with their type of coleslaw on top of the fish! Next time I will make a point of tasting that!
We saw many many birds - but even on the beach there weren't any seagulls or pigeons stealing food. Other birds would happily pick up the crumbs from your dinner, but weren't trying to snatch it out of your hand.
This was a great yellow Kiskadee, which is a type of flycatcher (but it also eats fish and small animals, which is unusual).

I saw the most beautiful lizard in the garden at the Hamilton apartment - a blue green one! Apparently they were brought in from Jamaica, and are thriving.
And we can't forget the chickens and roosters roaming around free all over the place! The locals I believe called them Feral Chickens, hahahaha!
